Honfleur Honeymoon (Part Two)

Located on the Normandy coast, Honfleur is more than a historic, fascinating fishing village. It inspired the French Impressionists at the turn of the late 19th century and early 20th century. And also, Honfleur has a booming artists' community, a lot of museums, art galleries and more than one hundred and forty bars, restaurants and caf├ęs. As Honfleur is located at the mouth of the river Seine, it is convenient to go everywhere from this lively, flourishing port.

Church of Sainte-Catherine
The church is constructed of wood on a stone foundation. It was built as an act of devotion by the local craftsmen (wooden shipbuilders) using their established technics (15C), not at all like the thousands of locally built wooden frame churches of the 17-20C USA. It has unequal double naves with inverted sheep-keel roofing. This one also has lean-to aisles and decorated internal panels and galleries plus an organ loft at the west end.

The focus of Honfleur is around its harbor. It is full of colorful

yachts. The cobblestone path around the harbor opens to numerous restaurants which serve mainly, you guessed it, fish dishes (prawns, mussels, etc.)

These restaurants have harborside cafes perfect for sipping your cup of morning coffee. The restaurants run around 15 euros - 30 euros average per meal, but there were some less expensive if you just read the menus posted outside. The harbor is part of the area where the famous Seine river empties into the ocean.

Honfleur is less than a 2 hour drive from Paris. But be careful that you don't get caught up in the made rush of Parisians leaving Paris on Friday night / Saturday morning and returning Sunday evening. The traffic can be quite high. Best to travel during the week.
